Dale sent me a beautiful calla lily bouquet on Friday. Awww, isn't that's so sweet of him?

They're so vibrant in colour and the shape is so beautifully eye catching

All three roses in the bouquet were this unique pattern. It's verrry pretty.

Dale always seems to make my day

I can't wait to visit New York next week with him :)
I've heard so much about NY and this will be my first time visiting the city

I'm super fortunate that Dale is taking me on this trip and he always looks after me. 

And then the weekend after New York, Dale is taking me to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania for sightseeing, baseball games & shopping!! Ahhh! 

I loved Pittsburgh!

I visited it for the first time last August with my family (post is here)

Aaand, Dale and I get back from Pittsburgh on Easter Sunday.
So guess what?! 
My parents invited him over for Easter dinner!
Awww, so they all get to meet each other - so nice! And lots of yummy home cooked food too.
I have so many things to look forward to this month ;)

Question on Dale's Generosity

I was asked a question in my last post regarding Dale's generosity and asking me if he was rich/what he does for a living...and this post is also for a couple of other comments I got as well.
(I chose not to publicly post the comments to keep it anonymous) 

I've sort of already touched base on this topic in this post when I was asked a similar question.

First off, I do not know Dale's exact financial situation nor does he know mine.
I treat someone's financial situation like someone's religion/belief system - it's a very personal matter. I don't ask people what their financial situation is or what religion they belong to - it's up to them if they want to open up to me voluntarily to talk about it. And honestly, I do not want to know Dale's salary.

Second, there are different ways of being generous. Generosity has to do with the character of a person. It has little to do with someone's financial situation/job.

I know my blog can come across as very superficial. Sometimes when I look through some of my posts I feel that it's very much so - and I honestly don't like it. But what can I do? Not many people want to read paragraphs upon paragraphs to get to know me better (and there's only so much I can convey through writing) so I try to keep my posts short, simple, and interesting. I may come across as superficial that way, but I think if you met me in person you would not think so.

Anyways, through blogger it appears that Dale is just financially generous because I don't write much about more personal matters. But honestly, Dale is a generous person to all his friends and family - and not just financially. He's been really supportive and understanding in so many ways especially when I felt there was nobody else there for me....and he has always respected me. Always. He has told me to be who I am around him whether it's for the good or bad. I don't put on an act around him - not only does he not want that but I can't do it. We've absolutely had our ups and downs like any relationship. For a few months last year, we were not even in touch. But we all have things we can improve on in ourselves. Dale and I have helped each other that way and we've worked through the rough patches. I'm just really lucky and blessed to have someone like this in my life for many many reasons. And he tells me almost everyday that he considers himself the person that is lucky to have me in his life.

I also keep in touch with Evgueni. One example of his generosity is that he took the time and effort to come over to my place to fix up my shoe racks for me while I was away with Dale earlier this week. I honestly really appreciate that and I did tell him that.

And it's not just men in my life that have been generous (this is for the insinuating comments from "Anonymous" commenters). My girlfriend Jasmin who I use to spend a ton of time with is extremely generous - she always looked after me, listened to me, cooked for me, she's never hesitated to pick up the bill for friends...etc...

As for what Dale does for a living, I try to keep him anonymous as not everyone in my life wants their face and name posted on my blog. He works for a very large company in Canada. I'll keep it at that.

In the end this is my blog among many others blogs out there.
If you're reading this it's obviously for entertainment reasons so take it lightly.

Please take the time to find happiness if your life everyday. I seriously mean that. Learn to love yourself. It can be a lifelong challenge but if you don't try to love and respect yourself, true happiness in life will not come into place. Try to cut out negativity in your life and be positive.....sheesh, where am I going with this? LOL I guess I just wanted to give some positive advice to cap off this post

NOTD: A Hit with the Guys + New York

Heyyy! I'm back home in Toronto from my trip out West....and this was my welcome home bouquet of two dozen roses from Dale ;) He knows I love the coral coloured roses and extra baby's breath. He's a sweetheart

And this was my manicure during my trip out earlier in the week

For fun, I had asked Dale what colour he would like my nails to be. He said hot pink :) So I immediately thought of the China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy nail polish that he picked up for me last month. A couple of coats of China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy:

Funny I didn't realize I had a small birth mark on my pinkie until I saw this picture! Huh, the things I discovered via blogging....

This colour is really bold especially on fake nails like this. I liked it but spruced it up a bit with some chunky glitter polish at the tips. I like to do this to jazz up any base coat colour

Sooo, this is the first manicure where I got numerous compliments - and all the compliments were from random gentlemen (the security guy at the airport, the gentleman sitting beside me on the plane, the male air flight attendant..etc..). I didn't get any compliments from the ladies...ah well. Hence the title of this post!


Now I gotta focus on my studies and catch up on some work stuff. But I can't complain because in two weeks Dale is taking me to New York!!! Ahhhh! I'm really excited :)

When I read and saw some video footage (here) about the earthquake and the following tsunami off the coast of Japan yesterday, I immediately thought of one person I knew that lives in Japan - my previous neighbour's girlfriend, Miki

My previous neighbour John, had touched base with me yesterday. When I asked about Miki he told me she was safe. Even though I had not been in contact with her for some time, I sent her a quick email.
I was surprised yet relieved to get an email response from Miki this morning:

I'm very glad for Miki that her family, home and coworkers are safe.
But I can only imagine the fear she had while experiencing the very strong earthquake at work with the windows breaking and walls falling and all the panic while not being able to stand or run/walk...and that there are still some aftershocks

It is unbelievably tragic when I saw video footage online - any natural disaster is, but it hits home in a different way when you know someone living nearby it and has been affected.

And for the couple of rude sales associates at the my local Metro grocery store and shopping mall I ran into the last couple of days, I thought, wow, slow down for a minute. Take life a bit easier. I think sometimes people forget about how fortunate they are in life....and the more time I spend outside of the big city of Toronto, the more I feel like I don't belong here. It's a wonderful place in terms of diversity and things to do, but with so many people in a constant rush, high stress levels and poor attitudes, it makes me think twice.
So take a moment and think about how fortunate you are and all the things you are thankful for.

Quick update...

I'm still here :) 

Okay, maybe not so much on blogger lately....

If you've followed my blog and taken the time to get to know me through my comment box (Thank You so much!), you'll know that unless I'm away on vacation I always try to comment back and in addition to that, I get back to you on your blog if you have one. I do all that before I make a new update post on my blog. So for me, blogging takes up a bit of time because I've taken the courtesy to get to know you a bit (and enjoy doing so) when you've taken the time to drop by here  :)

Lately a lot of my time is devoted elsewhere including towards my 2nd course in Real Estate

I've been delaying this course enrolment so I'm sure my family will be happy to hear this

I will make time for blogger if I'm on top of my readings 

(so there's a chance I may be blogging less frequently)

Hey! There's 16 chapters in this book!!! That's 15 too many LOL 

The studies are in addition to investments full time by the way.....

And, if you've been wondering why the lack of social nightlife activity on my blog, this is it:

My Canon Powershot SD1400 (I love this camera by the way) has well....been dropped too many times and the camera flash is no longer working since a month ago

It works fine without a flash, but all the pictures I take at a nightclub (and other dark places? LOL) require a flash. Hence the lack of party pictures on my blog for the past month :(  

As with anyone's personal life, it does take up a lot of my time - and I'm happy to say so

Dale is a big part of my life and he's one of the few people I keep in touch with nearly everyday now

I was a tad bit stressed out this weekend (unfortunately it was evident through my voice on the phone when I spoke to Dale) and he surprised me with this beautiful flower arrangement to cheer me up   

Although they're lovely, I feel bad! 

I really don't want to inconvenience him - I told him this but he insisted it's nothing

Dale has always been tremendous in his generosity. 

But even more important, he has been there for me when I felt that nobody else was there. That is the difference. When someone is there for you and you don't expect or even ask for it...and they're there for you because they want to be, not because they feel obligated for whatever reason

Onto a lighter note, Dale is flying me out later this month to see him out West :) Yay!! 

This is another reason why I'm finding less time to spend on blogger

But I do have a lot of hauls, swatches, reviews that I would like to post so hopefully I will be more diligent on getting things done so that I have more spare time to post them :)

Belated Valentine's Day Post

It's been nearly two weeks ago since Valentine's Day, but I was away and kept busy

Initially I thought I was going to be alone for that day, which I'm absolutely fine with 

But Dale ended up changing his flight and was able to stay a couple of days longer with me so I got to spend it with him 

We were still in Buffalo NY on Valentine's, and I think the nicest thing about the day was how it started 

When I woke up that morning, the first thing he said was "Happy Valentine's Day Hun." 

Dale is very sentimental and even though I'm a lot less so, it was so touching. And for each of the three mornings in Buffalo, he got me breakfast and brought it to me in bed (while I was still half asleep and incoherent LOL). I can't recall if I've ever been brought breakfast in bed by anyone else other than Dale. 

It's these little things that he's done for me, that I don't discuss on my blog, which matters most to me 

And it's what I think of when I reminisce about our times together.

All you know about Dale are the gifts he has bought for me - and it appears extremely superficial. I have not discussed many of the reasons I care for Dale on my blog as I'm not sure you'd be interested in reading about it

On Valentine's we quickly stopped into a Sephora. While I was checking out some products, I turned around and saw Dale on the other end of the store at the check out as he had just bought something. And it was a gift for me! I was a bit overwhelmed as he had already bought me so many lovely gifts...but he said he wanted me to have something to open on Valentine's. Awww

Armani Code is still my favourite perfume and this was the gift set he bought for me from Sephora

Mid January, Dale told me he wanted to get me something for Valentine's. 

He asked if I would like a new TV or if I had something else in mind. I graciously accepted his offer for a new TVas this was my old TV

So I went to Best Buy and did some research. With Dale's help we chose out my new Samsung 40"!

The TV was delivered and set up while Dale was with me a few days before Valentine's - I love it :)
It's really sleek, the size is perfect for my condo the image quality is really good

And these were the beautiful lavender coloured roses Dale left me with before he flew back out West

It was my first time getting lavender coloured roses - they were gorgeous 

It's tough - it's been a year since I've known Dale and I'm starting to take a liking to him. He's been extremely supportive of me especially during some tremendously difficult times lately. I miss Dale from even just writing this post...*sigh* Hopefully we will see each other in a month :)

How was this past weekend for you? 

More winter activities: where Karen's been

I spent the past week and a half with Dale and we did so many fun things together 

He took us on another trip back to Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville (about 2.5 hours from Toronto) for some winter activities :)
I must say that our two trips to Deerhurst Resort in the past month and a half has really changed my way of thinking when it comes to enjoying Canadian winters. There are so many fun winter activities to do!

One of the winter activities Dale took me on was skiing
I haven't been skiing in ages - it's been over 10 years since I last skied, but it was just as fun as I  remembered it to be
We skied at Hidden Valley ski resort which is just a few minutes drive away from Deerhurst
It's a great ski spot for beginners like me :)

I stuck to the green hills and only managed one easy blue run.
I liked the "Lazy Lady" run because it was really quiet and almost nobody was on that run
Mind you, I don't know what is lazy about that run. At some points on that run you have to cross country ski so you're anything but lazy if you want to make it to bottom of the hill!

Another fun activity that Dale booked for us was horse back riding!
It was my first time on a horse

I was a bit anxious the first few minutes up there - I thought I was going to fall off, or the horse would kick or jump or something crazy like that....but everything went well and it was a really nice experience (I just needed some extra help getting off the horse)

My horse Bubba was so cute! Do you see how he has curly hair?! 
He was really a funny horse and kept trying to munch on every weed/wild vegetation he saw growing along the path haha. He even tried to eat the ornamental Christmas wreath along the barn door that you can see in the picture below :S
He was a very good horse though :)

Because I had such a blast snowmobiling last month at Deerhurst with Dale (you can read my post here), he booked us again for snowmobiling
But this time instead of booking the snowmobiles for an hour and a half, Dale booked them for the whole afternoon :) Yay!

Dale rented the snowmobiles from the same company as last time - Baysville Marina 
They're a reliable company and Dale is really happy with how Steve and Chris run it...although this time the snowmobiles had a bit more wear and tear on them. The snowmobile I was on had its suspension blown :S But it still did the job

Last month when Dale and I went snowmobiling, we had to drive 30 minutes from Deerhurst to Baysville because there was not enough snow to snowmobile at the resort
This time, we got lucky and there was a ton of snow!
So the snowmobile rental company drove up the snowmobiles to Deerhurst which allowed both Dale and I to explore the trails around the resort we stayed at :)

It was a ton of fun and the trails around Deerhurst Resort are just as scenic as the trails around Baysville

Dale is really such a great guy - he always looks after me, always puts me first and has been so supportive of everything

Weekend: Friday Night Brant House + Sat Night Evgueni's

Friday night was club night at Brant House!

The lovely Margarita (Miss Tootie's World) and her cousin April were able to come out :)

Pre drinks were fun!! Ahhh, we gotta do it again :P

My friend Rob was able to join us along with his friend Val - that was nice since I hadn't seen them both since August I believe :S

Friday Night: This is the Lady in Red

Remember my Lady in Red Birthday Party post? 

Well, this is the gorgeous Birthday girl Friday night decked up in red....

Mandy is one of the few down-to-earth, fun, dedicated and genuinely good-hearted people you'll ever meet - there's a lot of things I admire about Mandy :)

I saw some reviews of the club saying it looks like a basement - and yes, it does. The decor could step up a notch but in all honestly, all that really matters to me is my friends, the crowd & music

1. What time did you get up this morning? 

A bit of an exception since today is New Year's but I woke up around 2 pm something

2. How do you like your steak? 

Medium or medium rare

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema? 

I saw both The King's Speech and Black Swan in the same evening

4. What is your favourite TV show?  

None. I don't have cable TV at my place

5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?  

I love Canada. 

I'm happy here in Toronto but I can see myself out West near the Canadian Rockies

Gyros with rice - that's only because I was at Evgueni's overnight

I usually have oatmeal, a fruit/yogurt and cottage cheese/eggs for breakfast at home

7. What is your favourite cuisine? 

Too many!! 

Usually when I dine out I like Japanese, Greek, Middle Eastern or Chinese - I'm all over the place

8. What foods do you dislike? 

I guess it's common sense to say I don't like food that is not cooked well (like poorly marinated meat or burnt food)....I can't think of any common foods that I really dislike

On a 2nd thought, I don't like licorice but I don't consider that common for me

9. Favourite Place to Eat?  

My Mom and Dad's cooking whenever I go home to visit them

But right now for dining out, I'm loving any joint that makes good gyros and shawarma

10. Favourite dressing?

Greek style for my salad - feta, olive oil, a bit of lemon with black pepper

11.What kind of vehicle do you drive? 

I don't have my own car. Only driven Daddy's car (SUV or minivan) 

12. What are your favourite clothes?  

Depends where I'm going - I love to dress up and I love to be casual too

For dressing up - fitted dress or skinny jeans with top + heels

For dressing down - Roots hoodies (I LOVE them to keep me warm), tank, sweats + runners...like that picture of me in the mountains

13. Where would you visit if you had the chance?  

I really want to go on a cruise to Alaska :)

And if I were to re-visit a place, Laguna Resort in Redang Malaysia!

Honestly, when my glass is half empty at home, I fill it back up to full  - so I guess I see it as getting empty and fill it right back up 

15. Where would you want to retire?

I heard Victoria Island is ideal for retirement but I haven't been there myself yet

16. Favourite time of day?  

My answer would change depending on what I want / have to do

Nothing like a sunny afternoon though :)

Toronto

18. What is your favourite sport to watch?  

Men's hockey - only if it's a Canadian team like the Leafs (I know, we suck) or our kick ass men's olympic hockey team

I'm looking forward to my trip to Deerhurst Resort (~3 hour drive up north) in just over a week with Dale. We're gonna do some winter activities like snowmobiling, hayride, dogsledding & snow tubing....and he booked a spa treatment for me. I can't wait :)

26. What did you want to be when you were little?  

Wasn't sure to be honest. I only discovered what I really like doing in the past 3 years

27. What is your best childhood memory? 

It always goes back to family for me - any fond memories of me, my two sisters and my parents spending time together... like on road trips... even simple things like being walked to school and when we went to Church 

28. Are you a cat or dog person?  

Definitely a dog lover

But I'm fond of other people's pet cats

This was our last family dog - our precious Brady when he was a puppy We loved him so so much

29. Are you married?  

No

30. Always wear your seat belt?  

Yes!

I have a habit of getting into the car, pressing the automatic lock on all doors (or just locking my own door if I'm not driving) and then immediately putting on my seat belt before anything else. I would say the only time I don't wear a seat belt is if I'm buzzed at night and taking a cab home from a club - but even then, I sometimes remember to put my seat belt on

31. Been in a car accident?  

Luckily only once but it was a minor fender bender - nobody got hurt

32. Any pet peeves?  

Ugh, I absolutely get annoyed when guests (even Evgueni or anyone in my family) visit my place, uses the bathroom and there's water dripped onto the counter top or splashed onto my mirror in the bathroom. Or if any guests drop (and leave) crumbs of food on my floor. I know it's so trivial but it happens so frequently!! LOL

33. Favorite Pizza Toppings?   

Meat toppings like pepperoni & spicy Italian sausage (don't get ideas LOL) - not a fan of ham or anchovy as a pizza topping. I don't mind ham or anchovies separately though

34. Favorite Flower?  

Peach/coral long stem roses with baby's breath

Flowers that Dale sent to me

35. Favourite ice cream?  

Soft serve vanilla ice cream

If it's not soft serve I like mint chocolate

36. Favourite fast food restaurant?  

Burger King for a hamburger or A & W for poutine

37. How many times did you fail your driver's test?    

Once

It was a combination of completing a left hand turn on an orange light (drivers are on the left hand side where I'm from by the way) and when I parallel parked my Dad's minivan I hit the pylon. Thank goodness it was a pylon because on my 2nd try I had to parallel park the same minivan between two cars! But at least I didn't hit anything the 2nd time LOL

38. From whom did you get your last email?

39. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?

Compared to my travels in Asia, USA and England I must say that Canadian shopping sucks...yeah, I've been to West Edmonton mall - its the biggest mall in N. Amer and it's nothing to write home about

I don't live in London but I would say Harrods - because they have everything and will even order things in for you if you're willing to pay a premium :)

40. Do anything spontaneous lately? 

Laundry! LOL

I usually don't plan too many things in advance so I guess many things I do could be considered spontaneous/last minute - but nothing out of the ordinary recently

I love the way I cook it

Actually stir fry broccoli was the dish I cooked and brought to the last pot luck I went to

It was a hit! And it disappeared very quickly too LOL  So many people were like, "Did you try Karen's broccoli?!!!" I was flattered but surprised - I guess they don't eat much Chinese food

43. What was your favourite vacation?  

There's something special about each vacation

But I loved spending time alone with my parents this past year in Vegas and Asia. 

It was also nice when I flew my parents out West to Calgary/Banff for Thanksgiving 2009 

My most recent trip to London/Paris/Stonehenge with Dale was very memorable

I hope to travel alone with both my sisters and/or with just my younger sister since I haven't done that combination yet!

Evgueni - we  had Korean BBQ

45. What are you listening to right now?  

Now that you ask and I'm made conscience of it, the central air system keeping my place warm and Bobo munching a carrot beside me
